E-Learning Assets: Interactive SCORM

E-Learning Assets: Interactive SCORM

Concept Learning is an e-learning platform specialising in assistive technology courses. One of the key selling points of the courses are the interactive units which help to reinforce the user learning. These units were designed as SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) assets which allow developers to create interactive content supported by a large number of Learning Management Systems.

Developing a Story

The courses were developed by a two man team consisting of myself and the Concept Learning content developer. To create the SCORM assets I learned how to use Articulate Storyline software, an industry standard program for interactive learning courses. Storyline allowed me to design events which could closely mirror real software interactions. This meant that users could learn about software functions before actually practising them themselves without needing the software running.

Multimedia Learning

By mixing video, with reading and interactive elements we created materials which are engaging and easy to use. The courses are also capable of tracking user engagement and scores so that the overall courses are capable of conditional progress and grade based passes.

Since the initial designs, we have created around fifteen courses each containing at least five SCORM assets. These courses are taken by university students right across Scotland and have also been integrated into an SQA accredited qualification in assistive technology business skills.
